Making a vow, she pleaded, “LORD of Armies, if you will take notice of your servant’s affliction, remember and not forget me, and give your servant a son, I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and his hair will never be cut.”[fn]

And she made this vow: “O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the LORD, his hair will never be cut.[fn]

καὶ ηὔξατο εὐχὴν κυρίῳ λέγουσα Αδωναι κύριε ελωαι σαβαωθ ἐὰν ἐπιβλέπων ἐπιβλέψῃς ἐπὶ τὴν ταπείνωσιν τῆς δούλης σου καὶ μνησθῇς μου καὶ δῷς τῇ δούλῃ σου σπέρμα ἀνδρῶν καὶ δώσω αὐτὸν ἐνώπιόν σου δοτὸν ἕως ἡμέρας θανάτου αὐτοῦ καὶ οἶνον καὶ μέθυσμα οὐ πίεται καὶ σίδηρος οὐκ ἀναβήσεται ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ

وَنَذَرَتْ نَذْرًا وَقَالَتْ: «يَا رَبَّ الْجُنُودِ، إِنْ نَظَرْتَ نَظَرًا إِلَى مَذَلَّةِ أَمَتِكَ، وَذَكَرْتَنِي وَلَمْ تَنْسَ أَمَتَكَ بَلْ أَعْطَيْتَ أَمَتَكَ زَرْعَ بَشَرٍ، فَإِنِّي أُعْطِيهِ لِلرَّبِّ كُلَّ أَيَّامِ حَيَاتِهِ، وَلاَ يَعْلُو رَأْسَهُ مُوسَى».

وَنَذَرَتْ نَذْراً لِلرَّبِّ قَائِلَةً: «يَا رَبَّ الْجُنُودِ، إِنْ عَطَفْتَ عَلَى مَذَلَّةِ أَمَتِكَ، وَذَكَرْتَنِي وَلَمْ تَنْسَنِي، بَلْ وَهَبْتَ أَمَتَكَ ذُرِّيَّةً، فَإِنَّنِي أُعْطِيهِ لِلرَّبِّ كُلَّ أَيَّامِ حَيَاتِهِ، وَلَنْ أَحْلِقَ رَأْسَهُ».

And she vowed a vow to the Lord, saying, O Lord God of Sabaoth, if thou wilt indeed look upon the humiliation of thine handmaid, and remember me, and give to thine handmaid a [fn]man-child, then will I indeed dedicate him to thee till the day of his death; and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and no [fn]razor shall come upon his head.
