لَكِنَّ عَسَائِيلَ أَبَى أَنْ يَتَنَحَّى عَنْهُ، فَطَعَنَهُ أَبْنَيْرُ بِعَقِبِ الرُّمْحِ، فَغَاصَ الرُّمْحُ فِي بَطْنِهِ وَخَرَجَ مِنْ ظَهْرِهِ، فَوَقَعَ صَرِيعاً وَمَاتَ فِي مَكَانِهِ. فَكَانَ كُلُّ مَنْ يَمُرُّ بِالْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي صُرِعَ فِيهِ عَسَائِيلُ يَتَوَقَّفُ عِنْدَهُ.
