بَعْدَ هذَا الأَمْرِ لَمْ يَرْجعْ يَرُبْعَامُ عَنْ طَرِيقِهِ الرَّدِيَّةِ، بَلْ عَادَ فَعَمِلَ مِنْ أَطْرَافِ الشَّعْبِ كَهَنَةَ مُرْتَفَعَاتٍ. مَنْ شَاءَ مَلأَ يَدَهُ فَصَارَ مِنْ كَهَنَةِ الْمُرْتَفَعَاتِ.

وَعلَى الرَّغْمِ مِنْ تَحْذِيرِ النَّبِيِّ فَإِنَّ يَرُبْعَامَ لَمْ يَحِدْ عَنْ طَرِيقِهِ الأَثِيمَةِ، بَلْ عَادَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فَكَرَّسَ كَهَنَةً لِمَعَابِدِ الْمُرْتَفَعَاتِ، اخْتَارَهُمْ مِنْ عَامَّةِ الشَّعْبِ، فَكَانَ يُكَرِّسُ كُلَّ مَنْ يَرْغَبُ أَنْ يَكُونَ كَاهِناً لِهَذِهِ الْمُرْتَفَعَاتِ.
