فَقَالَ لَهُ: «سَيِّدِي عَالِمٌ أَنَّ الأَوْلاَدَ رَخْصَةٌ، وَالْغَنَمَ وَالْبَقَرَ الَّتِي عِنْدِي مُرْضِعَةٌ، فَإِنِ اسْتَكَدُّوهَا يَوْمًا وَاحِدًا مَاتَتْ كُلُّ الْغَنَمِ.

فَأَجَابَهُ يَعْقُوبُ: «يَا سَيِّدِي أَنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ الأَوْلادَ مَا بَرِحُوا أَطْرِيَاءَ الْعُودِ، وَغَنَمِي وَبَقَرِي مُرْضِعَةٌ، فَإِنْ أَجْهَدْتُهَا يَوْماً وَاحِداً فَإِنَّ كُلَّ الْغَنَمِ تَمُوتُ.
