καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς κύριον ἐν τῷ ἰδεῖν αὐτὸν τὸν ἄγγελον τύπτοντα ἐν τῷ λαῷ καὶ εἶπεν ἰδοὺ ἐγώ εἰμι ἠδίκησα καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ποιμὴν ἐκακοποίησα καὶ οὗτοι τὰ πρόβατα τί ἐποίησαν γενέσθω δὴ χείρ σου ἐν ἐμοὶ καὶ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρός μου

فَكَلَّمَ دَاوُدُ الرَّبَّ عِنْدَمَا رَأَى الْمَلاَكَ الضَّارِبَ الشَّعْبَ وَقَالَ: «هَا أَنَا أَخْطَأْتُ، وَأَنَا أَذْنَبْتُ، وَأَمَّا هؤُلاَءِ الْخِرَافُ فَمَاذَا فَعَلُوا؟ فَلْتَكُنْ يَدُكَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى بَيْتِ أَبِي».
