The singers, the heads of the Levite families, stayed in the temple chambers and were exempt from other tasks because they were on duty day and night.
Now these are the singers, heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites, living in the temple chambers, free from other service because they were on duty day and night.
فَهؤُلاَءِ هُمُ الْمُغَنُّونَ رُؤُوسُ آبَاءِ اللاَّوِيِّينَ فِي الْمَخَادِعِ، وَهُمْ مُعْفَوْنَ، لأَنَّهُ نَهَارًا وَلَيْلاً عَلَيْهِمِ الْعَمَلُ.
