فَقَالَ: «حَسَنًا. أَنَا أَقْطَعُ مَعَكَ عَهْدًا، إِلاَّ إِنِّي أَطْلُبُ مِنْكَ أَمْرًا وَاحِدًا، وَهُوَ أَنْ لاَ تَرَى وَجْهِي مَا لَمْ تَأْتِ أَوَّلاً بِمِيكَالَ بِنْتِ شَاوُلَ حِينَ تَأْتِي لِتَرَى وَجْهِي».

فَأَجَابَهُ دَاوُدُ: «حَسَناً، أَنَا أُبْرِمُ مَعَكَ مِيثَاقاً، إِلّا أَنَّنِي أَشْتَرِطُ عَلَيْكَ أَمْراً وَاحِداً، هُوَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَ أَوَّلاً بِمِيكَالَ بِنْتِ شَاوُلَ حِينَ تَأْتِي لِمُقَابَلَتِي، وَإلَّا فَلَنْ تَرَى وَجْهِي».

And David said, With a good will I will make with thee a covenant: only I demand one condition of thee, saying, Thou shalt not see my face, unless thou bring Melchol the daughter of Saul, when thou comest to see my face.
