So Midian was subdued before the Israelites, and they were no longer a threat. The land had peace for forty years during the days of Gideon.
وَذَلَّ مِدْيَانُ أَمَامَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَلَمْ يَعُودُوا يَرْفَعُونَ رُؤُوسَهُمْ. وَاسْتَرَاحَتِ الأَرْضُ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً فِي أَيَّامِ جِدْعُونَ.
