Ephraim Punished

1 Do not rejoice ^H8055, Israel ^H3478, [fn]with jubilation ^H1524 like the [fn]nations ^H5971!

For you have been ^H2181 unfaithful ^H2181, [fn]abandoning ^H4480 H5921 your God ^H430.

You have loved ^H157 the earnings ^H868 of unfaithfulness on [fn]every ^H3605 threshing ^H1637 floor ^H1637.

2 Threshing ^H1637 floor ^H1637 and wine ^H3342 press ^H3342 will not feed ^H7462 them,

And the new ^H8492 wine ^H8492 will fail ^H3584 [fn]them.

3 They will not remain ^H3427 in the LORD’S ^H3068 land ^H776,

But Ephraim ^H669 will return ^H7725 to Egypt ^H4714,

And in Assyria ^H804 they will eat ^H398 unclean ^H2931 food.

4 They will not pour ^H5258 out ^H5258 drink ^H5258 offerings ^H5258 of wine ^H3196 to the LORD ^H3068,

Nor will [fn]their sacrifices ^H2077 please ^H6149 Him.

Their bread will be to them like [fn]mourners’ ^H205 bread ^H3899;

All ^H3605 who eat ^H398 it will be defiled ^H2930,

Because ^H3588 their bread ^H3899 will be for [fn]themselves ^H5315 alone;

It will not enter ^H935 the house ^H1004 of the LORD ^H3068.

5 What ^H4100 will you do ^H6213 on the day ^H3117 of the appointed ^H4150 festival ^H4150

And on the day ^H3117 of the feast ^H2282 of the LORD ^H3068?

6 For behold ^H2009, they will be gone ^H1980 because ^H4480 of destruction ^H7701;

Egypt ^H4714 will gather ^H6908 them together ^H6908, Memphis ^H4644 will bury ^H6912 them.

Weeds ^H7057 will take ^H3423 possession ^H3423 of their treasures ^H4261 of silver ^H3701;

Thorns ^H2336 will be in their tents ^H168.

7 The days ^H3117 of punishment ^H6486 have come ^H935,

The days ^H3117 of retribution ^H7966 have come ^H935;

[fn]Let Israel ^H3478 know ^H3045 this!

The prophet ^H5030 is a fool ^H191,

The [fn]inspired ^H7307 person ^H376 is insane ^H7696,

Because ^H5921 of the grossness ^H7230 of your wrongdoing ^H5771,

And because your [fn]hostility ^H4895 is so great ^H7227.

8 Ephraim ^H669 was a watchman ^H6822 with my God ^H430, a prophet ^H5030;

Yet the snare ^H6341 of a bird ^H3352 catcher ^H3352 is in all ^H3605 his ways ^H1870,

And there is only [fn]hostility ^H4895 in the house ^H1004 of his God ^H430.

9 They are ^H7843 deeply ^H6009 depraved ^H7843

As in the days ^H3117 of Gibeah ^H1390;

He will remember ^H2142 their guilt ^H5771,

He will punish ^H6485 their sins ^H2403.

10 I found ^H4672 Israel ^H3478 like grapes ^H6025 in the wilderness ^H4057;

I saw ^H7200 your forefathers ^H1 as the earliest ^H1063 fruit ^H1063 on the fig ^H8384 tree ^H8384 in its first ^H7225 season.

But they came ^H935 to Baal-peor ^H1187 and devoted ^H5144 themselves to [fn]shame ^H1322,

And they became ^H1961 as detestable ^H8251 as that which ^H159 they loved ^H157.

11 As for Ephraim ^H669, their glory ^H3519 will fly ^H5774 away ^H5774 like a bird ^H5775—

No ^H4480 birth ^H3205, no ^H4480 pregnancy ^H990, and no ^H4480 conception ^H2032!

12 Though ^H3588 H518 they bring ^H1431 up ^H1431 their children ^H1121,

Yet I will bereave ^H7921 them of ^H7921 their children ^H7921 [fn]until not a person ^H120 is left.

Yes ^H3588, woe ^H188 to them indeed ^H1571 when I depart ^H5493 from them!

13 Ephraim ^H669, as I have seen ^H7200,

Is planted ^H8362 in a pasture ^H5116 like Tyre ^H6865;

But Ephraim ^H669 is going to bring ^H3318 out ^H3318 his children ^H1121 for slaughter ^H2026.

14 Give ^H5414 to them, LORD ^H3068—what ^H4100 will You give ^H5414?

Give ^H5414 them a miscarrying ^H7921 womb ^H7358 and dried-up ^H6784 breasts ^H7699.

15 All ^H3605 their evil ^H7451 is at Gilgal ^H1537;

Indeed ^H3588, I came to hate ^H8130 them there ^H8033!

Because ^H5921 of the wickedness ^H7455 of their deeds ^H4611

I will drive ^H1644 them out ^H1644 of My house ^H1004!

I will no ^H3808 longer ^H3254 love ^H157 them;

All ^H3605 their leaders ^H8269 are rebels ^H5637.

16 Ephraim ^H669 is stricken ^H5221, their root ^H8328 is dried ^H3001 up ^H3001,

They will produce ^H6213 no ^H1097 fruit ^H6529.

Even ^H1571 though ^H3588 they give ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to children,

I will put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191 the precious ^H4261 ones ^H4261 of their womb ^H990.

17 My God ^H430 will reject ^H3988 them

Because ^H3588 they have not listened ^H8085 to Him;

And they will be wanderers ^H5074 among the nations ^H1471.
