Covenant of the Rainbow

1 Then God ^H430 blessed ^H1288 Noah ^H5146 and his sons ^H1121, and said ^H559 to them, “Be ^H6509 fruitful ^H6509 and multiply ^H7235, and fill ^H4390 the earth ^H776.

2 The fear ^H4172 of you and the terror ^H2844 of you will be on every ^H3605 animal ^H2416 of the earth ^H776 and on every ^H3605 bird ^H5775 of the sky ^H8064; on everything ^H3605 that crawls ^H7430 on the ground ^H127, and on all ^H3605 the fish ^H1709 of the sea ^H3220. They are handed ^H5414 H3027 over ^H5414 to you. 3 Every ^H3605 moving ^H7431 thing ^H7431 that is alive ^H2416 shall be food ^H402 for you; I have given ^H5414 everything ^H3605 to you, as I gave the green ^H3418 plant ^H6212. 4 But ^H389 you shall not eat ^H398 flesh ^H1320 with its life ^H5315, that is, its blood ^H1818. 5 I certainly ^H389 will require ^H1875 [fn]your lifeblood ^H1818 H5315; [fn]from every ^H3605 animal ^H2416 I will require ^H1875 it. And [fn]from every person ^H120, [fn]from every ^H376 man ^H376 as his brother ^H251 I will require ^H1875 the life ^H5315 of a person ^H120.

6 “Whoever sheds ^H8210 human ^H120 blood ^H1818,

By man ^H120 his blood ^H1818 shall be shed ^H8210,

For in the image ^H6754 of God ^H430

He made ^H6213 mankind ^H120.

7 “As for you, be ^H6509 fruitful ^H6509 and multiply ^H7235;

[fn]Populate ^H8317 the earth ^H776 abundantly ^H8317 and multiply ^H7235 in it.”

8 Then God ^H430 spoke ^H559 to Noah ^H5146 and to his sons ^H1121 with him, saying ^H559, 9 “Now behold ^H2009, I Myself ^H589 am establishing ^H6965 My covenant ^H1285 with you, and with your [fn]descendants ^H2233 after ^H310 you; 10 and with every ^H3605 living ^H2416 creature ^H5315 that is with you: the birds ^H5775, the livestock ^H929, and every ^H3605 animal ^H2416 of the earth ^H776 with you; of all ^H3605 that comes ^H3318 out ^H3318 of the ark ^H8392, every ^H3605 animal ^H2416 of the earth ^H776. 11 I establish ^H6965 My covenant ^H1285 with you; and all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320 shall never ^H3808 again ^H5750 be eliminated ^H3772 by the waters ^H4325 of a flood ^H3999, nor ^H3808 shall there again ^H5750 be a flood ^H3999 to destroy ^H7843 the earth ^H776.” 12 God ^H430 said ^H559, “This ^H2088 is the sign ^H226 of the covenant ^H1285 which ^H834 I am making ^H5414 between ^H996 Me and you and every ^H3605 living ^H2416 creature ^H5315 that is with you, for [fn]all ^H5769 future ^H5769 generations ^H1755; 13 I have set ^H5414 My rainbow ^H7198 in the cloud ^H6051, and it shall [fn]serve as a sign ^H226 of a covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 Me and the earth ^H776. 14 It shall come ^H1961 about ^H1961, when I make ^H6049 a cloud ^H6051 appear ^H6049 over ^H5921 the earth ^H776, that the rainbow ^H7198 will be seen ^H7200 in the cloud ^H6051, 15 and I will remember ^H2142 My covenant ^H1285, which ^H834 is between ^H996 Me and you and every ^H3605 living ^H2416 creature ^H5315 of all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320; and never ^H3808 again ^H5750 shall the water ^H4325 become ^H1961 a flood ^H3999 to destroy ^H7843 all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320. 16 When the rainbow ^H7198 is in the cloud ^H6051, then I will look ^H7200 at it, to remember ^H2142 the everlasting ^H5769 covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 God ^H430 and every ^H3605 living ^H2416 creature ^H5315 of all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320 that is on the earth ^H776.” 17 And God ^H430 said ^H559 to Noah ^H5146, “This ^H2088 is the sign ^H226 of the covenant ^H1285 which ^H834 I have established ^H6965 between ^H996 Me and all ^H3605 flesh ^H1320 that is on the earth ^H776.”

18 Now the sons ^H1121 of Noah ^H5146 who came ^H3318 out ^H3318 of the ark ^H8392 were Shem ^H8035, Ham ^H2526, and Japheth ^H3315; and Ham ^H2526 was the father ^H1 of Canaan ^H3667. 19 These ^H428 three ^H7969 were the sons ^H1121 of Noah ^H5146, and from these ^H428 the whole ^H3605 earth ^H776 was [fn]populated ^H5310.

20 Then Noah ^H5146 began ^H2490 [fn]farming ^H376 H127 and planted ^H5193 a vineyard ^H3754. 21 He drank ^H8354 some ^H4480 of the wine ^H3196 and became ^H7937 drunk ^H7937, and uncovered ^H1540 himself inside ^H8432 his tent ^H168. 22 Ham ^H2526, the father ^H1 of Canaan ^H3667, saw ^H7200 the nakedness ^H6172 of his father ^H1, and told ^H5046 his two ^H8147 brothers ^H251 outside ^H2351. 23 But Shem ^H8035 and Japheth ^H3315 took ^H3947 a garment ^H8071 and laid ^H7760 it on both ^H8147 their shoulders ^H7926 and walked ^H1980 backward ^H322 and covered ^H3680 the nakedness ^H6172 of their father ^H1; and their faces ^H6440 were [fn]turned ^H322 away ^H322, so that they did not see ^H7200 their father’s ^H1 nakedness ^H6172. 24 When Noah ^H5146 awoke ^H3364 from his wine ^H3196, he knew ^H3045 what ^H834 his youngest ^H6996 son ^H1121 had done ^H6213 to him. 25 So he said ^H559,

“Cursed ^H779 be Canaan ^H3667;

[fn]A servant ^H5650 of servants ^H5650

He shall be to his brothers ^H251.”

26 He also said ^H559,

“Blessed ^H1288 be the LORD ^H3068,

The God ^H430 of Shem ^H8035;

And may Canaan ^H3667 be [fn]his servant ^H5650.

27 “May God ^H430 enlarge ^H6601 Japheth ^H3315,

And may he live ^H7931 in the tents ^H168 of Shem ^H8035;

And may Canaan ^H3667 be [fn]his servant ^H5650.”

28 Noah ^H5146 lived ^H2421 350 ^{H7969 H3967 H2572} years ^H8141 after ^H310 the flood ^H3999. 29 So all ^H3605 the days ^H3117 of Noah ^H5146 were 950 ^{H8672 H3967 H2572} years ^H8141, and he died ^H4191.
