Israel’s Unfaithfulness Condemned

1 [fn]Say ^H559 to your brothers ^H251, “[fn]Ammi ^H5971,” and to your sisters ^H269, “[fn]Ruhamah ^H7355.”

2 “Dispute ^H7378 with your mother ^H517, dispute ^H7378,

Because ^H3588 she is not my wife ^H802, and I am not her husband ^H376;

But she must remove ^H5493 her infidelity ^H2183 from her face ^H6440

And her adultery ^H5005 from between ^H996 her breasts ^H7699,

3 Otherwise ^H6435, I will strip ^H6584 her naked ^H6174

And expose ^H3322 her as on the day ^H3117 she was born ^H3205.

I will also make ^H7760 her like a wilderness ^H4057,

Make ^H7896 her like desert ^H6723 land ^H776,

And put ^H4191 her to ^H4191 death ^H4191 with thirst ^H6772.

4 “Also, I will take ^H7355 no ^H3808 pity ^H7355 on ^H7355 her children ^H1121,

Because ^H3588 they are children ^H1121 of infidelity ^H2183.

5 “For their mother ^H517 has committed ^H2181 prostitution ^H2181;

She who conceived ^H2029 them has acted ^H954 shamefully ^H954.

For she said ^H559, ‘I will go ^H1980 after ^H310 my lovers ^H157,

Who give ^H5414 me my bread ^H3899 and my water ^H4325,

My wool ^H6785 and my flax ^H6593, my oil ^H8081 and my drink ^H8250.’

6 “Therefore ^H3651, behold ^H2009, I will obstruct ^H7753 [fn]her way ^H1870 with thorns ^H5518,

And I will build ^H1443 [fn]a stone ^H1447 wall ^H1447 against her so that she cannot ^H3808 find ^H4672 her paths ^H5410.

7 “And she will pursue ^H7291 her lovers ^H157, but she will not reach ^H5381 them;

And she will seek ^H1245 them, but will not find ^H4672 them.

Then she will say ^H559, ‘I will go ^H1980 back ^H7725 to my first ^H7223 husband ^H376,

Because ^H3588 it was better ^H2896 for me then ^H227 than ^H4480 now ^H6258!’

8 “Yet she does not know ^H3045 that it was I myself ^H595 who gave ^H5414 her the grain ^H1715, the new ^H8492 wine ^H8492, and the oil ^H3323,

And lavished ^H7235 on her silver ^H3701 and gold ^H2091,

Which they [fn]used ^H6213 for Baal ^H1168.

9 “Therefore ^H3651, I will [fn]take ^H3947 back ^H7725 My grain ^H1715 at [fn]harvest time ^H6256

And My new ^H8492 wine ^H8492 in its season ^H4150.

I will also take ^H5337 away ^H5337 My wool ^H6785 and My flax ^H6593

That I gave to cover ^H3680 her nakedness ^H6172.

10 “So now ^H6258 I will uncover ^H1540 her [fn]lewdness ^H5040

Before the eyes ^H5869 of her lovers ^H157,

And no ^H3808 one ^H376 will rescue ^H5337 her from My hand ^H3027.

11 “I will also put ^H7673 an ^H7673 end ^H7673 to ^H7673 all ^H3605 her joy ^H4885,

Her feasts ^H2282, her new ^H2320 moons ^H2320, her Sabbaths ^H7676,

And all ^H3605 her festivals ^H4150.

12 “And I will destroy ^H8074 her vines ^H1612 and fig ^H8384 trees ^H8384,

Of which ^H834 she said ^H559, ‘They are my wages ^H866 for ^H866 prostitution ^H866

Which ^H834 my lovers ^H157 have given ^H5414 me.’

And I will turn ^H7760 them into a forest ^H3293,

And the animals ^H2416 of the field ^H7704 will devour ^H398 them.

13 “I will punish ^H6485 her for the days ^H3117 of the Baals ^H1168

When ^H834 she used to [fn]offer ^H6999 sacrifices ^H6999 to them

And adorn ^H5710 herself with her nose ^H5141 ring ^H5141 and jewelry ^H2484,

And follow ^H1980 H310 her lovers ^H157, so that she forgot ^H7911 Me,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068.

Restoration of Israel

14 “Therefore ^H3651, behold ^H2009, I am going to persuade ^H6601 her,

Bring ^H1980 her into the wilderness ^H4057,

And speak ^H1696 [fn]kindly ^H3820 to her.

15 “Then I will give ^H5414 her her vineyards ^H3754 from there ^H8033,

And the [fn]Valley ^H6010 of Achor ^H5911 as a door ^H6607 of hope ^H8615.

And she will [fn]respond ^H6030 there ^H8033 as in the days ^H3117 of her youth ^H5271,

As in the day ^H3117 when she went ^H5927 up ^H5927 from the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714.

16 “And it will come ^H1961 about ^H1961 on that day ^H3117,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068,

“That you will call ^H7121 Me [fn]my husband ^H376

And no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 call ^H7121 Me my [fn]Baal ^H1180.

17 “For I will remove ^H5493 the names ^H8034 of the Baals ^H1168 from her mouth ^H6310,

So that they will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be [fn]mentioned ^H2142 by their names ^H8034.

18 “On that day ^H3117 I will also make ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 for them

With the animals ^H2416 of the field ^H7704,

The birds ^H5775 of the sky ^H8064,

And the crawling ^H7431 things ^H7431 of the ground ^H127.

And I will [fn]eliminate ^H7665 the bow ^H7198, the sword ^H2719, and war ^H4421 from the land ^H776,

And will let them lie ^H7901 down ^H7901 in safety ^H983.

19 “I will betroth ^H781 you to Me forever ^H5769;

Yes, I will betroth ^H781 you to Me in righteousness ^H6664 and in justice ^H4941,

In favor ^H2617 and in compassion ^H7356,

20 And I will betroth ^H781 you to Me in faithfulness ^H530.

Then you will know ^H3045 the LORD ^H3068.

21 “And it will come ^H1961 about ^H1961 on that day ^H3117 that I will respond ^H6030,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068.

“I will respond ^H6030 to the heavens ^H8064, and they will respond ^H6030 to the earth ^H776,

22 And the earth ^H776 will respond ^H6030 to the grain ^H1715, to the new ^H8492 wine ^H8492, and to the oil ^H3323,

And they will respond ^H6030 to [fn]Jezreel ^H3157.

23 “I will sow ^H2232 her for Myself in the land ^H776.

I will also have ^H7355 compassion ^H7355 on ^H7355 [fn]her who had not obtained ^H7355 compassion ^H7355,

And I will say ^H559 to [fn]those who were not My people ^H5971,

‘You are My people ^H5971!’

And [fn]they will say ^H559, ‘You are my God ^H430!’”
