Elihu Rebukes Job in Anger
1 Then these H428 three H7969 men H376 stopped H7673 answering H6030 Job H347, because H3588 he was righteous H6662 in his own eyes H5869.
2 But the anger H639 of Elihu H453 the son H1121 of Barachel H1292 the Buzite H940, of the family H4940 of Ram H7410, burned H2734 against Job H347; his anger H639 burned H2734 because H5921 he justified H6663 himself H5315 [fn]before H4480 God H430. 3 And his anger H639 burned H2734 against his three H7969 friends H7453 because H5921 H834 they had found H4672 no H3808 answer H4617, yet they had condemned H7561 Job H347. 4 Now Elihu H453 had waited H2442 [fn]to speak H1697 to Job H347 because H3588 they were years H3117 older H2205 than H4480 he. 5 But when Elihu H453 saw H7200 that there H369 was H369 no H369 answer H4617 in the mouth H6310 of the three H7969 men H376, his anger H639 burned H2734.
6 So Elihu H453 the son H1121 of Barachel H1292 the Buzite H940 [fn]spoke H6030 out H6030 and said H559,
“I am young H6810 in years H3117 and you are old H3453;
Therefore H5921 H3651 I was shy H2119 and afraid H3372 to tell H2331 you [fn]what H1843 I think H1843.
7 “I [fn]thought H559 [fn]age H3117 should speak H1696,
And [fn]increased H7230 years H8141 should teach H3045 wisdom H2451.
8 “But it is a spirit H7307 that is in mankind H582,
And the breath H5397 of the Almighty H7706 gives H995 them understanding H995.
9 “The [fn]abundant H7227 in years may not be H2449 wise H2449,
Nor H3808 may elders H2205 understand H995 justice H4941.
10 “So H3651 I [fn]say H559, ‘Listen H8085 to me,
I too H637 will tell H2331 [fn]what H1843 I think H1843.’
11 “Behold H2005, I waited H3176 for your words H1697,
I listened H238 to your skillful H8394 speech H8394,
While H5704 you [fn]pondered H2713 what H4405 to H4405 say H4405.
12 “I also paid H995 close H995 attention H995 to you;
But [fn]indeed H2009, there H369 was no H369 one H369 who refuted H3198 Job H347,
Not one of you who answered H6030 his words H561.
13 “So H6435 do H6435 not H6435 say H559,
‘We have found H4672 wisdom H2451:
God H410 will [fn]defeat H5086 him, not man H376.’
14 “But he has not presented H6186 his words H4405 against H413 me,
Nor H3808 will I reply H7725 to him with your [fn]arguments H561.
15 “They are dismayed H2865, they no H3808 longer H5750 answer H6030;
Words H4405 have [fn]failed H6275 them.
16 “Should I wait H3176, because H3588 they are not speaking H1696,
Because H3588 they have [fn]stopped H5975 and no H3808 longer H5750 answer H6030?
17 “I too H637 will [fn]give H6030 my share H2506 of answers H6030;
I also H637 will tell H2331 my opinion H1843.
18 “For I am full H4390 of words H4405;
The spirit H7307 within H990 me compels H6693 me.
19 “Behold H2009, my belly H990 is like unvented H3808 H6605 wine H3196;
Like new H2319 wineskins H178, it is about to burst H1234.
20 “Let me speak H1696 so that I may get H7304 relief H7304;
Let me open H6605 my lips H8193 and answer H6030.
21 “Let me be H5375 partial H5375 H6440 to no H408 one H376,
Nor H3808 flatter H3655 any man H120.
22 “For I do not know H3045 how to flatter H3655,
Otherwise my Maker H6213 would quickly H4592 take H5375 me away.
